Opening

When I allow an unpleasant event to happen, I become an opening through which the universe enters this  world. I become soft and yielding, instead of hard and inflexible. I enable space to flow into my limited self. I don’t get pulled into the tears, the drama, the suffering. I look at the situation as if it were happening to somebody else.

When I am in this state of acceptance, the situation suddenly shifts. I am able to see the good that was hiding underneath the bad.  Why? Because there is balance in universe and when I become pliant, I open up the space for one form (good) to move into another form (bad). Underneath any event or situation, life is benevolent and abundant.

Garbage

When somebody curses at me or calls me names, I remind myself that the epithets are just garbage coming out of the attacker’s mouth. The issue is not personal and it is not about me.  The other person is having a bad day. He/she is having an energy release, and I just happen to be the nearest observer to witness it. I am then able to watch the torrent of words without emotion. I look at the other person with curiosity, even interest. The strange thing is that when I bring awareness into the situation, it begins to change. The energy turns from harmful to healthy. Why? Because I created an opening for the universe to dissolve the negative energy and transform it into positive energy. I am left with a fresh, powerful feeling.

Awaken

When we awaken to the power within us, we don’t pick up the guilt, anger or resentment that are thrown our way. We watch an explosive situation with no comment or judgment. We do this for no other reason than to understand it, to learn as much as we could about it. We don’t seek to change it, interpret it, or blame it. We make the anger, guilt or resentment a non-issue. We allow it to be there. The strange thing is that when we are in this state of acceptance, the situation begins to change. Why? Because we allowed space to penetrate our consciousness and diffuse the negative energy that was swirling around us. We then experience the bliss that was hiding underneath the negativity.

Streaming

My mind constantly streams thoughts of the past and the future. I look to the past for my identity and to the future for my fulfillment. Both are illusions. Only the present moment can free me of these illusions.

But how can I stop the constant streaming in my head? The key is to watch my thoughts with no comments or judgments.  I look at them as if I have no connection to them whatsoever. I am saying, “I am here and my thoughts are there.” When I dis-entangle myself from thinking, I take emotions out of my thoughts.

The curious thing is that when I dis-identify with my thoughts, they no longer drag me down the river of despair and anxiety. Thus, the past loses its power to control me and the future loses its promise to fulfill me. I become free.

Bliss

When I watch everything that happens to me without judgment or comment, I become one with the present moment. I stop identifying with anything or anyone. I become free.

I start to focus on what I have, rather than what I don’t have. I realize that whatever I need will be given to me at the right moment. I begin to trust in life. I experience bliss.

Depth

When I don’t run away from pain or suffering, I discover that things are not as bad as they seem. It was dreadful only because I saw one side of the issue. When I face the situation, I realize that there is also a benevolent side to it. Moreover, I get the resources and help needed to cope with the matter at hand.

I discover depth when I delve deeper into the problem instead of focusing on the surface appearance of forms. In doing so, I realize that the world is always balanced. There is bad, but there is also good. There is pain but there is also comfort. There is sorrow, but there is also joy.  The key is to look at the event in an open, non-judgmental way.

Fresh

Fresh

When I feel the stillness within me, I am fresh and alive. There may be turbulence swirling around me in the form of drama, anxiety or stress, but I recognize it as energy movement passing through my existence. In the midst of it all, I am peaceful and calm. I am a detached observer watching the situation unfold.

It is during this period of alertness that right action happens through me. I am able to see clearly what needs to be done and I act on it. I am alert and open to all the possibilities the universe has to offer.
