What is success? Some people say that success is making a lot of money, buying a big house or becoming famous. These may be symbols of success but they are not success in themselves. These things continously shift from one form to another. You may be famous but after a few years you are relegated to the background because some new talent comes along. You may have a lot of money but you then you lose it in a new business venture. You may enjoy the big mansion by the beach but then you lose your job so you lose your house and other treasured possessions along with it. If you measure success by what the world tells you are the symbols of success, you will be constantly agitated because you will experience the two polarities of form (positive/negative, good/bad, high/low), which are never enough.
So if these forms are not success, what then is true success? Eckhart Tolle says that success is none other than a successful present moment. If you make perfect action from moment to moment, success is assured. You don’t have to make success happen. It happens on its own because you bring quality, care and attention to your actions. When consciousness flows into your action, it becomes empowered and touches everything and everyone around you. The paradox is that when you stop trying to be successful, you are successful.
