Eckhart Tolle says that the essence of things is space. We are surrounded by space and yet we don’t notice it because we are so preoccupied with the things that happen in this space. Our lives seem like an endless succession of things to do and think about.
Why not try an experiment for a change? Instead of attaching a story to each object, situation, or person that we meet, why not watch them with no judgment and let their presence touch us? When we learn to step back and observe, we notice the stillness that is in the background. We unload the heavy burden of stressful stories that we carry around. We are welcoming silence and emptiness into our lives. Isn’t that a relief?
